You’ve made it to stage two! There is a sign there. “Watch out! There is Mandragora in the area.” Mandragora is a mandrake that pops out of the ground, screams, and has blades surrounding it when you get close. You can spot them by looking for plants in the ground or stopping time and looking at the numbers of red graze you can steal above their heads. Wait until you have a full Time gauge and then jump over them. Once inside the mansion, there is a save phone. To the right there are spinning blades and a pink fairy maid. In Luna Nights the fairy maids aren’t working with Sakuya, they’re working against her! The pink fairy maids wave their duster and then charge a small distance forward. They are easy to dodge, but they may get in the way with the spinning blades.
The first blades you can get through without stopping time. Walk forward right behind one blade after it passes you. You can throw knives without them being stopped by the blades, so you can attack the fairy maids while you go through. There are two more sections of the room with spinning blades. Once you get through the second, there is a new type of fairy maid. These ones are blue and shoot projectiles at you. They can get annoying, but as long as you have space to move around the projectiles you should be fine. For the last blades, they spin faster, and you need to trigger snail time to move past them.
Now you should be in a big room. It’s displayed as four sections in the map. There are pink fairy maids right by the hall you just came through on the top left. There are blue fairy maids on the right, and skeletons on the bottom. Skeletons can throw their heads at Sakuya and they return like a boomerang. They also do a lot of damage, so be sure to jump over them both times if a skeleton attacks you. Jump off the platform and go to the bottom left. Following that hall, there is a save phone. There are two skeletons in the next room, then another big room that is displayed as four sections in the map. Now there are purple fairy maids, and they have cannons. You can see a fuse animation on the back of the cannon. When it runs out, the cannon shoots. There is also another new type of yokai. They look similar to the blue ones we saw in stage one, but these ones can teleport a short distance. They try to teleport a little closer to Sakuya each time, but they teleport away very quickly when Sakuya throws a knife. This makes them hard to attack. Auto Aim gets rid of them very quickly though, and they don’t seem to teleport away from those knives.
There is a vending machine in the top left room and warp zone in the bottom left. Go into the room with the warp zone. We don’t need to warp anywhere for now, but we will need it soon, and now that you’ve seen two warp zones you can use them. Go to the bottom right room. There are mandragora in here too. With these, you can walk close to them, run away when they sprout up (remember you can stop time for that), and then throw knives at them while they are uprooted. There is another new thing here called red mist. If you step in it, it causes Sakuya to become “Time paralyzed”. This means it will rapidly drain your Time gauge and cause you to not be able to regenerate it for at most fifteen seconds. Step on the pressure plate, wait until the gate is fully opened, and then go under the mist using your sliding knife. The next obstacle is a spinning log with spikes in a spiral pattern on it. Trigger snail time and then use the sliding knife to go under it. Then stop time, jump over the next spot with red mist, under the second, then through the gate. Then if you use your sliding knife again, you can slide over the mandragora without taking damage.
In the next room there are pink fairy maids, blue fairy maids, a room in the floor, and an exit to the bottom left. If you go into the floor room and to the right under the crawl space with the sliding knife, there is a vending machine. There is also a secret room to the left, but we can’t get anything in there right now. You aren’t headed into a place that is very dangerous, so just make sure your Time gauge is full and then go to the bottom left room. It’s a hall filled with fairy maids. If you stop time, you can just walk past them all while stealing red graze that keeps refilling your Time gauge. You might notice that some of the chandeliers are still in color while time is stopped. When something is in color while time is stopped, that means it would be able to move while time is not stopped. Some chandeliers from now on will fall when you’re under them. You can stop time to get past them. You can also find which ones will fall by looking at their chains. The chandeliers that don’t fall will have nice looking chains on them, but the ones that do have broken chains that look like hooks holding on to each other.
Once in the next room, there is a save phone. The chandelier above it does not fall. The room stretches on to the left. There’s something there. Before you grab it, stop or slow time. The chandelier above it does fall. You got a double jump knife! Double jump is very useful because it not only allows you to jump higher, but it also drops two knives when you double jump without costing any MP. When you pick up any of Sakuya’s knives, it recovers some MP. Rapidly double jumping is a good way to quickly recover MP in situations where you need a lot or ran out while there’s no vending machine nearby. There is a secret room directly in front of you. There are skeletons on the floor. Jump onto the ledge and into a room above it. There are fairy maids here that you need to defeat first, but then double jump onto the next ledge above you. Up at the top is a Knife Up that permanently increases the number of knives you can throw during the same time stop.
Go back to the right and make your way to the big room with the purple maid fairies. Then go back to the other four sectioned room on the top right. Go up to the top right room in that room and stop time. There are mandragora here, but you can just jump over them. Jump onto the ledges one after another. There are skeletons on these so watch out. Once at the top, go to the left. Auras are introduced here. The one here is called a purple aura. Objects with a purple aura can move even when time is stopped. The platform in front of you has a purple aura. Jump on the platform. On the other side, get past the spinning blade and then defeat the pink and blue fairy maids. On the next one, you can just jump down onto the platform below you. Then get past the blade and use the platforms to get to the next room.
This next room is very tricky. There are spinning blades on the roof and platforms below them that you have to get through. The platforms and blades sometimes have the purple aura. There are also the teleporting yokai that try to get in your way and knock you onto the spikes. Use the first platform and get to the ledge before a blade. This one is a blade in the ground with a purple aura and two platforms that go over it. When the platforms get close enough, jump over the blade in the middle and onto the other platform. When you land on the middle ledge this time, use the trick where you throw knives down to stay in the air. You don’t need to stay in the air very long here, but the yokai underneath will teleport away from where you want to land. Wait for the next platform to arrive. This obstacle is a spinning blade on the roof and a platform under it with a purple aura. You can wait until the blade is laying in a place that it won’t get in your way, then pause time and let the platform take you to the other side. You can also use Auto Aim to get past they yokai waiting on the ledge. The next obstacle is a spinning blade and a platform with a purple aura. This one is tough. Wait until the platform is close to you then pause time and wait for the blade to pass it just slightly. Then get on the platform and let it carry you to the next ledge.
Go to the next room. You made it! There are skeletons on the floor and a secret room to the left. In the secret room is a skill. You can now throw a chainsaw! It costs fifteen MP. It is kind of hard to aim as it goes up a little and then down rather than straight like the stun knife, but once it hits an enemy it stays there and drains a lot of their health. Try using these chainsaws to defeat the purple fairy maids. Go up the ledges like stairs until you find a room to the right in the middle of the wall. There’s a vending machine and a save phone in there. Go to the right into a very long room with big windows. About halfway down, you’re stopped.
“Hey you, the maid! Freeze or I’ll shoot!”. Who could this be? Looks like you should brace yourself for another boss fight.
